Do your kids have chores? Do your kids get an allowance? Do they have to earn it or do you just give it to them? And how much is too much, or too little? Share your ideas by commenting on this video.
Great segment, Mark! My kids (11 & 9) get $20/month just to learn how to manage money. $4 ($1/wk) goes to church, $5 goes to their savings acct and they net $11. I don't buy little things for them. That's up to them now. And they have to do chores merely to have a roof over their head. =)
Great segment. When my daughters were Kareena's age; they had to make their beds and clean up their rooms. They also had to take turns (every other day-with me doing it on Sunday) taking care of the kitties. After that, these were done as t...heir part of being an active part of the family. Then other jobs were put on a chart with a payment amount attached to them and they could choose what they did. The 2 key things were they had to be done well, and the no one "owned" a job. they basically signed up for them. With that said, their "allowance" was strictly their money. We paid for their necessities.
I loved your segment on allowances. My kids have been saving since July and asked everyone for target gift cards for the holidays/birthdays. My daughter was saving for a tv and my son for a psp. They each ended up with enough money (!) to get an iTouch. When I asked them what they had learned from the experience, my daughter's answer was immediate. Save your money and end up with something that's worth it. Spend it on candy/food, end up with nothing. I was so proud of both of them. My mommy bragging moment of the day. Thanks for letting me share.
